Review of YHA Queenstown Lakefront

We visited Queenstown in February 2011, was the peak travel season of the year. We spent two days one night in Queenstown

There are 2 YHA accommodations provided in Queenstown at different locations:
1. YHA Queenstown Lakefront
2. YHA Queenstown Central

Due to the reason of having a lakeview from our room and we had done our researches from some forums saying that this accommodation is highly recommended with reasonable price. Hence, we decided to spend our night at YHA Queenstown Lakefront.

Information of YHA Lakefront
Address: 88-90 Lake Esplanade, Queenstown
Reception: 6.30am - 10.00pm
Check in: 2.30pm
Check out: 10.00am

Unfortunately, I noticed that the room price has been increasing from NZ$81 to NZ$87 for double room, but I am not very sure any changes for other types of room. I was staying in a double room which was with the lake view and beautiful mountain landscape.

Design of Double Room
Honestly, the room was under our expectation. Mainly is due to the limited space of the room, the bed is fit in the room but there was limited space to put our luggage and moving around. In addition, I needed to climb across the bed when my wife was arranging and packing the stuffs.

My room is located at the corner of the building, facing the lake and road. This was the reason why we did not have any problem that other travelers making noise in mid-night.

Clean but is prohibited to use it after 11pm to avoid disturbing other people.

Well equipped. The space is quite big, but I was still feeling crowded when we were cooking there. We actually cooked our dinner and breakfast in this hostel, the kitchen equipments are provided for free and of course are limited quantity if there are many users. There were herbs and spices provided, and Tupperware also provided.

Distance from the town
Being a little bit out of town, there is about 10 minutes flat walk along the beautiful lake, walking in night was not a problem, there were quite happening with tourists enjoying their night life. If you like walking and would like to avoid traffic jam in the town, I would advise you to walk.

There was a door pin code after 10pm for you to enter this building. The pin code would be given when you are checking-in.

The staffs here are knowledgeable and friendly. Reception can actually help to arrange cheap transport to the airport. They are also able to advice on cheap eating options, with discount vouchers.

Other Facilities
YHA Queenstown also equipped with the TV room, laundry service, internet access, luggage storage.

There were limitation of parking lots in the YHA's property area. We were unable to get a parking space after we came back from the town at 11pm. We could only park our car beside the main road with free of charge.

If you are looking for a booking, you can try which may provide you a reasonable price and points reward.
