Guest Post - Spring Beach Resort Getaways

Guest Post By Alexandra Jacobs

Winters can be very long and dreary, a never ending cycle of gray, cold days. The best remedy for the wintertime blahs (or even the spring rainy days that never seem to go away in the Hamptons) is a large dose of sunshine while sitting on the beautiful beach of a lovely resort. Shed those thick layers of clothes, tuck away that snow shovel and head to one of these top 5 beach resorts for a much-needed break from Old Man Winter.

1) Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa, Maui, Hawaii. No matter the time of the year, the weather is almost always perfect beach weather in Hawaii. The high temperatures are typically in the low to mid-80s and the lows are in the mid-60s to low 70s. The average ocean temperature is in the high 70s. The 40-acre Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa in Maui is the perfect place, especially for families, to enjoy the tropical beauty of Maui. One of this immense resort's pools is a 2000-foot-long water extravaganza of water slides, rapids and caves.

2) Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas. Part gorgeous hotel, part stunning aquarium, part massive 141-acre waterpark, part entertainment complex, Atlantis is a sprawling playground designed to keep the entire family amused. During the day, guests can hurtle down the side of a Mayan temple, swim with dolphins, or float through the middle of a shark tank. In the evenings, guests will find a number of restaurants, clubs, a casino and even a comedy venue in which to play their nights away.

3) South Seas Island Resort, Captiva Island, Florida. This resort was named as one of Parents Magazines top ten beach resort for families and is a beautiful venue for weddings. The South Seas Island Resort sits on an island in the Gulf of Mexico that is blessed with two and half miles of some of the best shelling beaches in the world. In addition, the resort has two pools, including a zero-entry one with slides.

4) Hayman, Queensland, Australia. If you have the time and the money, why not head to the land down under, where -- because the seasons are reversed to the United States -- the Aussies are enjoying summertime bliss while we schlep about in snow boots. The Hayman is a much awarded elegant resort that sits on a gorgeous private island within the electric blue waters of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The island, itself, is home to gorgeous wildlife, including the endangered Proserpine Rock Wallaby.

5) One & Only Palmilla, Los Cabos, Mexico. With only 172 rooms, the One & Only Palmilla is a relatively small luxury resort, but because it is just a quick plane ride from Los Angeles, it is a favorite among many Hollywood celebrities. This resort boasts beautifully elegant rooms, one of the area's best beaches for swimming, and its lovely, quiet grounds are home to a lazy river and a gorgeous infinity pool. Although it does have a kiddie pool, the One & Only Palmilla is more suited for couples than it is for families.
